Lost your dial-up connection while running the Viewer?
If you've started
the Viewer and are watching your selected contests/propositions scroll by, but then get that famous "lost connection" message, simply close the Viewer window only, and restore
your connection. Once the connection is restored, re-start the Viewer. Because your original browser window was
never closed, the Viewer's display data will be pulled from cache (a storage locale on your computer). When the Viewer restarts,
in some cases it begins scrolling the results of your selected contests. However, if results don't scroll, select the "Play" button.
Running a Java application on your machine causes the browser to hang and consume 100% CPU.
We have seen this symptom on some machines running NT4.0. It doesn't matter what Website you go to; any site
that uses Java causes the browser to hang. The fix is to check the display settings on your system. If
your display is set to "True Color", lower the color setting to something less, like 16K colors. This should take care of the
problem.
I keep selecting the "Refresh" button on my browser, but see no change in the Viewer results display.
No...there is no need to select the
"Refresh" button to update data displaying in the Election
Results Viewer. Unlike the election-page results accessed from the Vote2002
Home Page, the Election Results
Viewer automatically "pulls in" each new election-results file automatically.
The time display on your Viewer indicates
the time as of which the displaying results are current.
You will see this time display change automatically
each time a new election-results file is received.
There are times when my scroll speed slows down, then speeds up.
You will
notice the
display slow down when the Viewer goes back to the Secretary's of State system to pull in a
new election-results file. Some people notice this more than others depending on the size and type of
their system and what speed/type of connection they have to the Internet.

My computer can only display 256 colors and the screens look funny.
Depending
on the type of computer and browser being used, results
vary. The Election Results Viewer was designed using browser-safe colors. However, from within a Java applet, results
seem to vary.
Okay, I've been watching this thing for 20 minutes now and the time has not changed.
Hmmm...
well, one of a couple of things may have
happened. You could have lost connection to our server or for some reason the Secretary's
of State servers have not provided a new election-results file. You
can very quickly confirm connection to our server by simply navigating
to some other Secretary-of- State pages from your Web browser window. If
you cannot get to those pages, check connectivity to some other sites
on the Web.
If you have connectivity, and the update time displayed in the Election
Results Viewer is 20 or 30 minutes old, open the Java console on your Web browser and
look at what's happening. Once the console is open, scroll down to the bottom for
the latest information. If the Viewer hasn't received a new file within five minutes, it shortens
its interval timer and rechecks approximately every 45 seconds for a new file. When a new file
becomes available, the time will test "true" and the Viewer will update.
